New Plymouth, Taranaki Hard Rock outfit created in 1986. THE NOD, then a trio of vocalist / guitarist Darren Broughton, bass player Phil Parli and drummer Les Robinson, debuted with an eponymous cassette in 1988. The group, promoting the self-financed 'Thirsty Work' album, supported IRON MAIDEN at the Auckland Logan Campbell Centre in 1992.
THE NOD folded in 1998. Drummer Pete Westbury subsequently joined Hamilton's BLACKJACK. Broughton formed spoof band SEVERE, switching roles to that of drummer.
Guitarist Darren Broughton won an audition talent contest to feature as a lead guitarist opening the Easter 2008 'Rock2Wgtn' festival headlined by KISS and OZZY OSBOURNE. That year a retrospective THE NOD compilation, entitled 'Hanging Over', saw release. Broughton and Parli reunited to perform a set at the January 2009 Parihaka Peace festival in Taranaki.
After more than a decade away from the scene, THE NOD was to feature in a competition list of finalists bidding to support IRON MAIDEN at the Auckland Mount Smart Stadium in February 2009.
